The research activities at NCTU started with the development of semiconductor technologies and the establishment of the first semiconductor laboratory in Taiwan. This pioneer laboratory later fostered an entire ecosystem for the semiconductor industry in Taiwan, leading to renowned companies as derivatives, like TSMC, MediaTek, and UMC, just to name a few. Such a unique role has joined strong ties between NCTU and corporations, and benefited NCTU students and faculty members significantly for developing new research fields. Besides, it has established a distinguished alumni network, whose members comprise nearly two-thirds of the CEOs and general managers in HSP.
