Welcome to Aberystwyth University
Aberystwyth University was founded in 1872 as the University College Wales and became a founding member of the University of Wales in 1894. The name was thereafter changed to Aberystwyth University College of Wales. It was renamed the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, perhaps in the middle of the twentieth century. It is a Welsh public research university. It currently has over 8,000 students enrolled in three main academic faculties and 17 departments.
